The realms of Heaven and Hell are more than destinations that one end up in after they die. Yes, the souls of mortal do end up in these places after their time on Earth have passed, but these realms have existed long before the birth of man. They are thriving kingdoms with a rich cultural and a deep history. The denizens of these places are not what popular stories write them out to be--neither side is completely good or completely evil. They--like humans--are a mixture of both. They are in the middle of a war--a war that has been going on for so long that both sides have forgotten why they started fighting in the first place, but both sides holding so much pride that they refuse to give up the old hatred that continues to fuel this war. Not everyone one one side despised everyone on the other. Friendships blossomed between the two nations, and sometimes those friendships turned into something more.
It turned into a love story between a demon and angel. It what happened to Zedekiah's mother and father. His mother was the daughter of a powerful demon lord, but not powerful enough, at least that what her father believed. He wanted to climb the social ladder and saw his daughter as a tool to do this. He had an idea what a woman's place was suppose to be--an idea that was enforced by their society. He trained his daughter to fulfill their societies belief of an ideal woman, and it didn't hurt that she was considered extremely beautiful. In fact, this probably helped matters. In fact, this more than likely helped matters. Zedekiah's mother eventually caught the eye of a demon lord, whom if his father allied himself with would help him raise upon the social ladder. So, her father betrothed her to this demon and she had every intention of marrying this demon...until she met him---Zedekiah's father.
His father was a renowned warrior within Heaven's army, but he had a violent side that even his own father didn't like. Zedekiah's father disliked his son's violent nature so much that he named his youngest son as his heir. This didn't matter to Zedekiah's mother. She cared nothing about the position he held. He could have been the least powerful angel in all of heave. In fact, he could have been anything and she would have fallen in love with him, and he loved her back. However, things weren't meant to be. Her father found out about their relationship and he forbid her from seeing this angel. His mother refused to obey this order, and kept sneaking off to see the angel, whom have stolen her heart. This finally came to an end when she found herself pregnant with the angel's child.
Her father was outraged by this news. If Zedekiah's mother hadn't shamed her father by whoring herself out to the angel she did it by allowing herself to be knocked up with his child. He told her that if she valued the abomination growing within her womb that she would stop seeing the angel. Zedekiah's mother already loving him more than anything within the universe did as her father commanded--she stopped seeing the angel. She stayed within her father's estate, away from the temptation of the angel. His mother eventually gave birth to Zedekiah. His grandfather saw Zedekiah as an other opportunity to climb even further up the social ladder. Children born from the union of an angel and demon were looked down upon within both societies. They were considered an affront to nature--abominations in its truest sense.
In spite this fact, angels and demons both sought to possess these children. Within Hell, owning one of these abomination was considered a powerful status symbol. Demon lords fought over the possession of these children. Zedekiah's grandfather knew that he couldn't stand against every demon that wished to claim Zedekiah as their own, but he could use him to gain even more prestige within the elite of Hellion society. He decided to sell Zedekiah to yet another powerful demon lord. His mother did not wish to see her son become the plaything of some powerful demon lord tried to run away with him, but her attempts was quickly ended. Her father told her that this was his fate, and if she wished to save the abomination from a more horrific one she would do as she was commanded.
She would watch the abomination be the play thing of this demon lord without uttering a single sound of protest. That was his place and she would do nothing to encourage the abomination from thinking otherwise. In fact, she wouldn't speak to him at all. If she did, Zedekiah would be the one punished. Zedekiah's mother not wanting her child to be hurt any more than he already would obeyed her father, and she did so for many years. However, she eventually decided that she couldn't stand idly by and watched her beloved child by abused and tortured by his master. So, one day when Zedekiah's master was being overly cruel she decided to step between the true. His master became outraged that she decided to get between him and his 'toy' took his sword and stabbed it through her--giving her a killing blow.
She managed to tell Zedekiah all the things that she had always wished to tell him before she died. She told him that she was his mother, and that she loved him more than anything within this entire universe. The happiest day within her life was the day that he was born. She apologized to him. She apologized for being the worst mother--for failing to protect him all these years. More than that she apologized for him being punished for her sin. If it wasn't for her he wouldn't be an abomination and tortured for it. He should hate her for the torment that her actions brought him. She would understand if he did. She would fix it if she could. She would make him into a pure blood if she could. It wasn't that she didn't love him the way that he was. She didn't consider him to be an abomination. He was the most beautiful thing within her eyes. It was just that she didn't wish for him to be punished for her actions. She heard myths of half-breeds becoming full-breeds. She told him whom his father was--the angel that had stolen her heart and than she died.
He buried his mother and resumed his life the way it was before she revealed the truth to him, but her words kept playing inside his head. He discovered what his mother had told him about it being possible to become a full breed--whether it was angel or demon--was true. There were lots of stories about such things happen, and within his world when there is countless stories about something than it is possible. He decided that he would become a full-blooded demon. He decided that he would do this for his mother in order to give her a peace of mind--even within the after life. He knew that his mother wouldn't care which he became--a full blooded angel or demon, but the only connection with his angelic blood he had was that his father had been an angel. He had never been to heaven. Truth be told, he had never been outside Hell. He had only seen angels in passing. He felt more connected to his demonic half.
More than that, the only person whom showed him an ounce of kindness was his mother, whom was a demon--even she was killed for the act. It was probably that fact which swayed his decision to become a full-demon. The first step to achieving his goal was to free himself from the shackles of slavery. He did this by killing both his master and grandfather than taking control of their lands. He proved to be a very powerful lord that caused many demons to flock towards him in order to form an alliance with him in spite his half-breed status. It was here that the daughter of an extremely powerful demon lord caught his eyes. His grandfather would have given anything to form an alliance with her father. Just standing next to the man was enough to raise one's standing in society. However, Zedekiah had no interest in how befriending this man could make him raise on the social ladder. He only had eyes for his daughter, whom he believed to be the most beautiful thing in the world. The two feel in love, or so Zedekiah believed.
One day he stumbled upon her talking to an other demon, and the things she said didn't bring him joy. She told this other demon that he was nothing more than toy she was playing with until she become bored, and she had no desire to form a more permanent connection with him. This was why she had to get rid of that thing the abomination had planted inside her womb. She tossed it into the river to die. Something that the abomination mother should have done when he had been born. Those things didn't deserve to live. They weren't worthy of love. The funny thing was the disgusting thing thought she loved him. He became outraged over what he heard, and revealed himself to the pair before killing them. He decided that he would not allow himself to be pulled in by a pretty face again. He would not allow himself to fall in love again. He decided to put all his focus upon turning himself into a full-blooded demon.
Years passed before he came upon a way to make his dream come true. It was a book, or rather two books. The book of heaven and the book of hell. They used to be one many many eons ago. This book had been an extremely powerful grimoire that both heaven and hell wished to have possession of. They fought over the book, and since they didn't need more fuel added to their hatred for each other it was decided that this book would be divided in half. One half was given to the demons while the other to the angels. It is said that when this book was separated into two that spells were lost, and that if he could manage to rebind these two books together that he could gain access to these lost spell--one being a spell to make him into a full-blooded demon. He found the book of hell. He killed its currant keeper and took possession of the book for himself. He had one piece of the puzzle. He just needs to find the other.

Years have passed and he still haven't discovered the location of the book of heaven, but discovered that he had a half-sister. His father married another angel after Zedekiah's mother stopped seeing him. His father and this angel had a daughter--Zedekiah's sister. He did not discover this knowledge through careful investigation. No, he came upon it because his sister had lost her wings and fallen into hell. He discovered whom she was, and decided to take her into his care. She was family after all, and family should stick together. The two grew very close, and she is the only person that he shows any open affection towards--some might say she is the only person he shows any kindness towards. He learned her own ambitions. She has a desire to rewrite the universe.
He told her about what he had discovered all those years ago. How there was once a great grimoire that was divided into two because heaven and hell fought over it so fiercely. He told her that he had possession of the book of hell and only needed to find the book of heaven. If she helped him gain possession of the book of heaven he will give her possession of this great grimoire after he used it to make himself into a full-blooded demon. She than could use it to achieve her goal of rewriting the entire universe in her image.
